Walk to End Alzheimer’s: Supporting Senior Health and Wellness
The Friends Life Care team participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s to support the Alzheimer’s Association. Our team hosted its own walk, bringing colleagues together to raise awareness and funds for the Association’s important work in advancing research, providing education and resources, and supporting individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, and nearly 13 million Americans provide unpaid care for people living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. These numbers highlight the widespread impact of the disease and the importance of continuing to raise awareness and support research.
The Friends Life Care team walked 3 miles and raised more than $1,400 for the Alzheimer’s Association, contributing to ongoing efforts to advance research, improve treatments, and provide valuable resources to individuals and their loved ones.
Who Do You Walk For?
With more than 7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease, chances are you or someone you know has been personally affected by the disease. Whether it’s a parent, relative, friend, or someone in your community, Alzheimer’s touches the lives of millions of individuals and their loved ones.
At the 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer’s, we asked our Friends Life Care team who they were walking for and what inspired them to participate. Their answers reflected the many personal connections they have to this cause. Some walked in honor of their fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles, and friends, while others walked to support Friends Life Care members affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias or to help advance research toward better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
Purple Pledge Wall
Our team members also made personal pledges to help raise awareness and make a difference in the fight against Alzheimer’s. The “Purple Pledge Wall” provided a space for participants to reflect on how they could personally contribute to this important cause and commit to taking action. Their pledges ranged from participating in research and educating others to honoring loved ones, advocating for those affected by the disease, and remembering to see the person, not the disease.
Each pledge reflected a personal commitment to making a difference, reminding us that there are many ways to contribute to the fight against Alzheimer’s beyond participating in the walk.
The Role of Awareness and Education in Senior Health and Wellness
Supporting senior health and wellness means taking a proactive approach to aging, including understanding how our physical, cognitive, and emotional needs may change over time. Learning about conditions like Alzheimer’s disease, recognizing potential warning signs, and knowing what resources are available can help individuals and their loved ones make more informed decisions about the future.
At Friends Life Care, we encourage individuals to begin these conversations while they are healthy and independent, rather than waiting until a health concern arises. Through education, awareness, and community involvement, we hope to help more people be prepared to navigate the changes that may come with aging.
